FilterLumens are not the whole story
A dive light is described by three numbers and one shape. Lumens is total light output; anything from 1,000 lumens upward is plenty as a primary for most recreational diving. Beam angle decides what those lumens do: a narrow 6 to 12 degree spot cuts through murky water and is what you want for signalling and cave diving, while a wide 60 to 120 degree flood lights a scene evenly for video and night diving on a reef. Burn time at full power is quoted on every product page; halve it in your planning. And the handle matters more than people expect: a pistol grip is easiest to aim, a Goodman handle keeps your hand free, and a small backup should clip off and stay clipped.
Primary, backup or video
Every night diver carries a primary and at least one backup; technical and cave divers carry two backups. Canister lights put the battery on your waist for the longest burn times and the brightest heads. Video lights are wide, colour-accurate floods rated by colour temperature and CRI, and are listed with the arms and trays to mount them. Strobes for still photography sit in the cameras department.
Battery type is worth checking: rechargeable lithium packs give the most output but need a charger you can travel with; AA or CR123 lights are simpler to keep running on a liveaboard. Every light here lists lumens, beam angle, burn time, depth rating and battery so you can compare directly.
